Naruto, Vol. 16: Eulogy Reviews

Unlike a lot of wrap-up writing, especially in manga, this felt right. A lot progresses, quickly, speeding up and accomplishing a lot in comparison to the great fight scenes from the previous volume. Seeing Gaara brought low, and seeing a hint of what he will later become, was nice, but the funeral served more than a few functions, too.

And then, if we were wondering where we could turn to next for plot, we've got Itachi, the man Sasuke must kill.

I tell you, this whole story gets so much better

I tell you, this whole story gets so much better AFTER you know what's going to eventually happen. Spoilers are nothing. The tale holds so damn well no matter what.

To me, that's a mark of genius.

I have to say, especially with long series, once a series will reach a peak of awesomeness with a certain volume or episode, it then tends to be on a downhill slope, at least for a little while. So I'm glad to say that, even after giving volume 15 such a high rating, I enjoyed this next one just as much.

Since the pulishing of this volume, Naruto has continued on for quite a long time, adding new plot points and other awesome battles, but even now, the showdown between Naruto and Gaara is still one of my all-time favorite battles in this series. The emotions fit in so well, and I love being able to see connections between the protagonist and whoever s/he's fighting. It just adds more to the character of the villain. And the connection between Gaara and Naruto has always been one of the strongest relationships in this series.

The Hokage's funeral added some more deep life lessons, and things didn't slow down at all what with getting our first real introduction to Itachi in the same chapter.

All in all, volume 16 was an excellent follow-up.

Well, this was sad. Also this was going to be a 4 or 4.5 but I changed to 5 just because of a certain villain that showed up. Even on the show the reveal was perfect. But still, I think I got a new favorite villain to add to my growing list of favorite anime characters or villains, etc. Of course this volume was pretty good.

Well the Operation Destroy Konaha arc has officially wrapped up but not with out some serious consequences for the village. Our band of ninja mourn the loss of a beloved leader and try to repair Konaha. However lurking in the background some new villainous faces are making them selves known!!!

While this is supposed to serve as an aftermath to the big events in volume 15, it however quickly gets to the next big threat and the introduction of this new villain is marvelous.

Just when you think things will calm down, Masashi Kishimoto sets up the foundation for some big reveals to come and things only get more exciting with each page.

    Yours truly,

I just adore this series soooo much. I love every character. This volume however, introduces a few new characters...one we've heard about before and shows the reader just how powerful they are. I can't wait to read the next one and I loved revisiting this part of the story even though it is definitely very sad. Favorite for sure.

Just when we thought that the danger on village is over as Orochimaru and sand nins leave, a new danger arrives. The introduction of Akatsuki (It is a Japanese word for "dawn", that is interesting).

There were lots of great moments in this volume. The funeral of Third Hokage, The fearsome strength of Itachi Uchiha. The change in Gaara after his fight with Naruto. All of these scenes were arranged beautifully. This series is not over yet and the questions also remains of what Orochimaru will do n

    MY OPINION

The battle for Konoha has ended. With Orochimaru's retreat, the Sand Ninja pull away, retreating as well. Naruto and Gaara have both fallen, their chakra completely used up, yet still, the two manage to find an understanding of each other that other people may not understand. The both of them have suffered more loneliness than anyone can imagine, but the difference between them is Naruto has begun to escape it. However, the victory for Konoha is bittersweet. The Third Hokage, their leader has died, and the village has suffered numerous casualties of war. As they begin to put their shattered village back together, a new danger arrives. Two strangers in odd black cloaks that have red clouds have entered the village - and it seems that Kakashi, Asuma, and Kurenai know them. These two ninja are bingo book Class S criminals. One of them is from the village of Konoha, the other the Village Hidden in the Mist. They are Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki. Itachi is the only other living survivor of the Uchiha clan - and the person who murdered every other member of the Clan except for his younger brother, Sasuke. Kakashi worried they have come after Sasuke, but it's worse. The two members of the Akatsuki have come looking to the Fourth Hokage's Legacy. It appears they are after him simply because of the power of the nine-tailed fox within him. Meanwhile, Naruto sets off with Jiraiya, to do research, but little does Naruto know that they are really tracking down Tsunade, the last of the legendary three sanin, and a former teammate of Jiraiya and Orochimaru. Tsunade is now a candidate for the position of Fifth Hokage, but first they need to find her! However, Itachi quickly catches up, and Naruto is all alone in their inn room. Sasuke, having learned his brother is after Naruto, quickly follows after his friend and brother, knowing Naruto doesn't stand a chance against the power that is Itachi Uchiha...

Quote: "They saved me from my pit of loneliness... and they understand me... I couldn't live without them... I love them."
