They have captured Liet and all his cronies and they sit in the jail. Krista is recovering from the bullet Liet put in her shoulder. Florida and The Families aren't happy with the over throw of Liet and the rebels and attempt to kill them and destroy the city. Krista and Quinn figure this is about to happen when the news gets back to Florida so they pack up North Platte and head west. Then low and behold they don't even get out of town good when the city is destroyed.

This book picks right back up with Krista and Quinn and their experiences trying to escape Florida's attack and then trying to liberate and free Florida from The Families.I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. It was great how Sinclair just dropped us off right back at where the first book ended and it started with a boom and never slowed down. Where the first book to me was slow going at the beginning this one was not. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down.

Now that North Platte is free from the control of the evil Liet things will start getting better. Not so fast! It turns out Florida was happy with the way that General Liet handled things. They are not so happy about the uprising and will soon attempt to destroy them altogether. Knowing that they cannot defeat them, Krista and Quinn take the survivors further west in hopes that no one will be able to find them. That includes Liet, who is not happy being their prisoner now.

Krista and Quinn have a few friends left in Florida who need help staging their own takeover. They are tired of The Families lying to them and are ready to do something about it. I don't want to give so much away about this book because it has some exciting developments. Most of them have to do with the awful Leit. All Krista and Quinn want to do is liberate Florida and have some alone time. Young love is hard to find in the land of the zombies.

Another amazing book from Pembroke Sinclair. I have enjoyed this zombie series so much and hate when the book ends. The only thing better would be more books in this series. You know the characters very well by now and you want them to succeed. All books don't have happy endings but this one will not disappoint.

There's running water, electrical power, a bar and even a school. Krista chooses to leave this relatively safe place to go with her cousin Liet to North Platte in the West. Krista soon realizes that Liet is not looking out for the safety of his people and only wants more control and power. Krista knows that things have to change fast and that a war with Liet is the only way to have freedom again. What will The Families do when the one person they could control is losing his place at the top?

Krista is smart and quick and she has good instincts. She listens to what her gut is telling her and this has gotten her out of some very bad situations more than once. The ongoing battle with The Families has hardened Krista, but there's a lot of goodness in her character as well. Even though she'll make tough decisions when she has to she still manages to keep her humanity and I like that a lot about her. Krista wants to free the people and provide a safe place for them to live. She's an amazing young girl and I was rooting for her to be successful in her quest.

Death to the Undead is the second book in the Life After the Undead series. I loved the first book, so I couldn't wait to read more about Krista and the people she connected with. I'm a big fan of zombie stories and I love how Pembroke Sinclair kept me on the edge of my seat. Death to the Undead is filled with suspense and thrilling situations. Krista is one of the leaders of the rebellion against The Families and I enjoyed reading about their choices and how they think outside the box. I liked how allies come from the most unexpected places. Plenty of great twists and turns are making the book a real page-turner. This series would be perfect to turn into a TV-series and I would be watching every episode for sure. Pembroke Sinclair is a brilliant writer and I can't wait to read more of her books.

I received this book on a read to review basis from NetGalley. Thank you to the author, Pembroke Sinclair, and the publisher, Booktrope, for the opportunity.

I received this book on a read to review basis from NetGalley. Thank you to the author, Pembroke Sinclair, and the publisher, Booktrope, for the opportunity.

I think my enjoyment for this book was marred due to my own stupidity in not realizing this book was the second in a series before beginning it. I didn’t feel lost or confused as such, but the book I received was a far cry from the book I expected.

The synopsis of the book described this as a post-apocalyptic novel after hordes of zombies have infested the world. The story follows seventeen-year-old Krista as she attempts to make the world a better place by leading a rebellion against The Families – an organisation that are little better than slavers and terrorists – that have taken advantage of the desiccation of the government and law enforcement agencies and now plan to rule all those left of the dramatically decreased and weakened human race.

I expected more action and more zombies in this zombie novel but instead I found a political revolt that felt a little repetitive in its conception. Instead there often seemed little underlying reasons were given for the repetitive assaults on Krista and her partner Quinn’s life. There involved lots of scenes of Krista firing guns in enclosed spaces leading to a preceding and temporary loss of hearing and even more scenes of her falling on her back and hurting her already injured shoulder. They added little to the plot and I felt a lot of pages were spent focusing on the same injuries she continually receives. It also seemed like there were a lot of people who wanted to harm her, leading me to become confused between the myriads of sides presented and their exact reasoning for wanting her dead . The plot, whilst not complex, felt like it was constantly running in circles around itself, but this may well have been due to my not having read the first book in the series.

I felt Krista’s character to be inconsistent with her age. She appeared to me to come across as far older and I often wondered how her young age commanded such respect in her followers and such fear in her enemies. She was never questioned and her people came across as one big, unorganised flock that were unable to think and fend for themselves. Quinn’s character felt wooden and I would have liked to see a further development of his character.

The book was also a little inconsistent and lacked explanation for the myriad of questions that surfaced whilst reading this. How have so many got accesses to electricity? Why do we hear so little from the thousands in her side of the rebellion? Why are we given such a limited view of The Families? Why are we told so little about what makes them such evil dictators? Where ‘dem zombies at? But, again, reading the first book may have answered all of these.

I feel bad giving this book such a low rating when I feels like it is partially my own fault as the reader but opinions are opinions and, despite my questions, I have no desire to go back and read the first book as I feel like perhaps this series is just not for me.
