I didn't know much about this book or this author when I started reading this book. I'm not sure if I even do yet! LOL. I can tell you that I read this book in less than 24 hours because I could not put it down.....I HAD to find out how things ended.

A female, who goes by the name Baroness, has a job where she is referred to as The Seduction Expert. Her job helps females who have any type of problem with a male. It could be to land a certain male or find out if said male is cheating on them. Baroness strongly feels that any man who has wronged any female ought to pay. With all of the strong connections that Baroness has, she can pretty much get any man to do what she wants for any woman. Just when it looks like her life couldn't be any more perfect, a huge wrench is thrown into her plans in the form of her future mother-in-law.

I think Baroness is the female that every female wishes they could be. Man does she have some balls! I loved the way she navigates through life. I really enjoyed the interactions with her staff too. Overall this was a fun book to read. The story ends in a way that makes me think there will more books about Baroness and I cannot wait to see where this ride is going to go.

An interesting take on a concept bringing to light a strong woman striving for the empowerment of not only women, but also how they see themselves. I enjoyed the first person voice of the story...making the story more impactful.

This ARC book was provided by as a complimentary copy provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I smile voluntarily providing my honest review.

This was one of those books that I assumed was going to die in my NetGalley queue. I requested this book back in December, and it was randomly approved at the end of April. Since it took so long, I decided to give the book a try to see if it was worth the wait.

Baroness (yes, that’s her name or at least what she prefers to be called) is a high society seduction expert, who is narcissistic as hell. She’s the type of woman who chews up and spits out men for sheer pleasure. Baroness runs a boutique consulting firm in Paris where she hires exclusive clients that are either: 1) seeking to either exploit their cheating husbands or 2) looking for a matchmaker set up.

Baroness is incredibly condescending and believes that everyone who isn’t her is beneath her. She constantly is making fun of the way that different women in the book dress as well as commenting on their weights. I literally just wanted to shake the living sh*t out of her. Unsurprisingly, she’s even more controlling when it comes to her own love life. She controls every aspect of her relationship with her boyfriend even using sex as a power tool.

Everything changes for Baroness when her boyfriend proposes and it’s finally time for her to meet her fiance’s mother, Mrs. Beaumont. Just when you think that Baroness is cold and impossible, Mrs. Beaumont is in a different league all together. This is a prime example of someone who acquires wealth (Baroness) versus someone who was born into wealth (Mrs. Beaumont). I’ll be honest, I flew through the rest of the book because all I wanted was for karma to finally catch up with Baroness.

Overall, I did enjoy this book even though I was highly annoyed with Baroness for the majority of it. Bravo to the author for writing a character that I definitely loathe. This is going to be one of those books that you either love the story line for all of its craziness or it will utterly piss you off.

Thank you to VSP Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.

The Seduction Expert by Saya Lopez Ortega is honestly something I have never read before and can honesty say I have never come close to a book like this!

"Baroness" runs a busy (and expensive) business in Paris. Supporting the wives of cheating wealthy men, basically taking back what she believes is truly owed to her clients. The Baroness is witty, narcissistic, strong feminist. This book screams "girl power"!! Even when difficulties comes her way, the Baroness is still one step ahead!! Th

Unfortunately this book wasn't for me, the premise was interesting and it was funny in part but overall this was a chore to read.

I really had to force myself to get through this, i think most of my issues with this book come from not liking the main character but in all honesty the plot wasn't for me either.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an

This is all very weird guys.

This is without a doubt the worst book I've read in a long time.

Leaving aside that I wouldn't categorize The Seduction Expert as a romance book *romance not found*, I find myself extremely confused for a couple different reasons. One being that this book has been marketed as most anticipated romance release to the point that I started believing it myself (when, I repeat, it is not even a romance and the book itself is extremely problematic). And two, the high average rating and praising reviews this book has on this site.

To put it simply, The Seduction Expert was a really, seriously, terribly bad book. That's exactly why I find myself shaking my head in pure disbelief after reading many of the positive reviews here, because guys. GUYS. The book I read has absolutely nothing to do with the praise, the pitch or the synopsis. The Seduction Expert was terribly BAD.

That, or I read something completely different to what I was promised and to what most reviews describe as

and a large etcetera. I am saying this because my impression was the exact opposite to all of the above. Reading about this so called Seduction Expert was certainly not fun or entertaining and rather alarming. Sadly, my issues aren't reduced to an unlikeable main character - even if the she truly was, and to a whole new level - in this case, I feel like the author failed at her main job. Writing. Making sense. Creating a story. Connecting with the reader. Making an impression.

Oh wait she did that tho. But a really bad one.

Don't believe me? See for yourself. When a self proclaimed feminist+successful+brilliant+hilarious main character says stuff like

    or things like

    Or,

    and also,

    and

Yup. This book degrades women. If the author intended to be sarcastic, or to paint a charicature of the dating dating scene and the stereotypes of women that find themselves in it, she failed. Miserably. All that mixed with bad writing, lack of plot, the absence of anything remotely fun or entertaining, etc., leaves me with no alternative but to warn you and ask you: do you really want to spend (waste) your time on this?

I hope the answer is no.

*I received an eARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received a request from the publisher to review this book, but declined.

I'm always suspicious when I'm being asked to review a book that has a whole lot of 5-star ratings from people with little or no GR activity. So many of the top reviews for this book are from people with private profiles, and if you investigate the 80-odd people who have liked all these similar 5-star reviews, you notice that almost all are without GR friends.

That's highly suspicious to me, friends. Nothing gets my goat like books that have to rely on fake or false reviews.

I don't know what the deal is but I sure as heck ain't reading this any time soon.

Edit (10/7/19): Couldn't help but Google and

    people might find interesting ...

Edit (14/7/19): Thank you to all of the honest people who have left negative reviews despite being told by this publisher not to. Your voices deserve to be heard! I had no idea what kind of wormhole I was opening with my original review but the support from everyone has been amazing. Even from people who genuinely loved this book. Thank you to all who have commented and messaged! What an incredible community we have here on GR. :)

Edit (20/7/19): Can confirm fishiness. Thanks to all of the GR detectives and the work you put into uncovering this mystery! It has come to light that the author, the publisher, and most of the private-profile positive reviewers are the same person. VSP publishing is in no way related to Vision Sports Publishing, and some of the profile pics of private reviewers will show up with an unrelated google search for beautiful people.

I just want to start by saying that no I have not read The Seduction Expert, nor will I ever after this email. I was contacted over a week ago and asked if I would be interested in receiving a ebook arc in exchange for an

review and that upon receiving it, there would be a deadline to submit it by. That was fine, I was interested enough. Well, my ebook copy was sent to me today via email and as you can see, I was asked to pretty much lie about my rating if it did

Well, my ebook copy was sent to me today via email and as you can see, I was asked to pretty much lie about my rating if it didn’t meet 3 stars or above. I was told that if I didn’t like it, to message them directly instead of posting my thoughts online but that’s??? literally??? what??? I??? was??? asked??? to??? do???

I’ve never, ever had to deal with this kind of problem before personally. I know that it happens but it’s making me sick to my stomach because on top of this mess, my email is somehow in a thread with other reviewers who are also upset and the individual who contacted us through some kind of publishing is supposed to remain professional and isn’t. I haven’t responded to their original email and I probably won’t because my anxiety is now at an all time high. I don’t appreciate my email being exposed to countless others and I’m upset that other reviewer emails are too.

I’ve taken out any names shown, but keep this in mind if you’re also approached about the book.

    I’ll be honest—

That would be because the publisher sent me an ARC (email pasted below), asking me to review the book, but only post my review on GR

I thought the email was sketchy, but decided to be nice and give the book a go. Yet, the more I read, the more I kept thinking....nope.

This book is listed as a romance, and that is the furthest thing from the reality! I was hard-pressed to find anything of a romantic nature in this book.

So now I’m left with the difficult task of describing this book. Where do I start? Women’s fiction? I think not! Thriller? Nope, that doesn’t work either. I’m at a loss....🤷🏻♀

Now, I’m all in for unlikable character

Now, I’m all in for unlikable characters! But they have to add something to the story! The “Baroness” just didn’t.

Unfortunately, it’s fundamentally just a book on arrogant narcissistic behavior. And, I must add, was way over the top.

Simply not the right book for me.
