This is such a fun book. It reminded me a bit of Eion Colfer's Artemis Fowl series as the MC jets off around the world for adventures...

But I don't want to give spoilers, so let me just say that in THE CRYPTID CATCHER, Lija Fisher tells the story of young Clivo who, after his father dies, discovers an amazing secret that will change his life and send him on a mission to save the world. There's humor, fun gadgets, fighting against the bad guys, and really smart kids.

I read an ARC of this book with no expectation of a review, and I look forward to reading the second in the series.

Fans of Rick Riordan will love this book!

It's STRANGER THINGS meets the hunt for Big Foot, Nessie, and other cryptids, a.k.a. animals from folklore that may actually exist! In this hilarious novel, 13-year-old Clivo's parents didn't raise him to be an A+ student, they were too busy teaching him jujitsu, marksmanship, and foreign language skills--Clivo speaks English, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindustani! With his Ultra Elite Diamond American Express card and his team of teen geniuses, he uses his quick wit and chases adventure to find the most sought after cryptid before it lands in the wrong hands. Basically, Clivo is saving humanity!

Like I said, fans of Rick Riordan will love this book. If you're looking for a bit of danger and magic, this is the book for you.

This is such an incredibly fun book -- I couldn't put it down! Not only is this book action packed, but it's full of humor as well. Clivo is a great protagonist, and all the secondary characters are wonderfully-drawn as well: from his salsa-dancing aunt, to the mysterious (and always-grumpy) Douglas Chancery, to the group of super-smart kids Clivo meets along the way. I love that the kids drive the action in this exciting middle grade. It reminds me a bit of Rick Yancy's The Monstrumologist. The

The stakes are high as Clivo sets out to catch cryptids and save the world. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

I read this book aloud to my daughter and she LOVED it. She's now obsessed with Nessie. And when we finished she shouted, "THERE BETTER BE A SEQUEL!" So I'd say it was a hit.

What an enjoyable, fun read! Reminds me of a combination of The Goonies but with a Monster of The Week style flair to it.

In The Cryptid Catcher, Lija Fisher writes about Clivo a young man, who discovers an amazing secret about his father that changes his life, and makes him questions everything he thought he knew about his family. He sets out on a journey to fulfill the destiny his father chose for him and make new friends along the way. It is funny, exciting, and extremely clever. It features

He sets out on a journey to fulfill the destiny his father chose for him and make new friends along the way. It is funny, exciting, and extremely clever. It features a diverse cast of different kids that almost anyone can find one to identify with. I found myself cheering Clivo on and worrying for him during harder decisions he had to make. I cannot wait to read more about his journey.

I've long believed that I am not a Science Fiction fan, but these middle grade books keep proving me wrong. Clivo Wren is thrown into Cryptid catching after his father mysteriously dies, and a stranger shows up at the door to convince Clivo this is the destiny his father wanted for him.

This book is alternatively funny and intelligent. Clivo has an important mission: to find the immortal cryptid. This mission is not for Clivo's gain, it's a precaution taken to keep the secret to immortality out

This book is so much more than I thought it would be, and I kept thinking about all the students who would have loved it! I'll be chasing them down the sixth grade hallway come September.

Highly recommend to fifth graders and up.

Do you believe in mythical creatures like the Loch Ness Monster? Bigfoot? The Abominable? The Yeti? Well what about The Chupacabra? Well, Clivo had never even thought about these creatures, that is until one night a strange man knocks on his door to tell him that his dad had been a Cryptid Catcher, one who seeks out these mythological creatures. Well, Clivo had never even thought about these creatures, that is until one night a strange man knocks on his door to tell him that his dad had been a Cryptid Catcher, one who seeks out these mythological creatures. How could this be? Clivo's dad always told him that he was an archeologist, but his dad is gone now and Clivo can not ask him. But now this strange man, Mr. Chauncery, has proof and he wants Clivo to take up where his dad left off. How can Clivo go around the world chasing these creatures when he is only thirteen-years-old? He has a diamond credit card, a wad of cash, and a group of kids whose whole life is researching the myths. His goal is to find the immortal cryptid, the one who has magical blood to make some live forever. Clivo is in a race to find this creature before the bad guys, but what happens when the bad guys find him? Read this fast-paced, action-packed, edge-of-your-seat, page turner to see if Clivo can find these mythical creatures or if he will succumb to the same fate at his father. Read to find out!!

I loved everything about this book!! Clivo is a kid who has lost both of his parents, has to live with a slightly eccentric aunt and only has one friend. He is a character that will grab your heart from page one and won't let go. He has been through a lot but he is determined to try to fill his dad's shoes. The supporting characters in the book will make you laugh out loud with their dry humor. This book is a must read!! Don't miss it!!

What a fun book! I've always loved weird paranormal subjects, so cryptids are right up my alley. I can't say that I had heard of every cryptid mentioned in this book, but I knew most of them pretty well and thought the author did a good job on her research and presenting the "facts" about these excitingly strange creatures of urban myth and lore. Definitely going to have to pick up the second book in the series to see how it ends and find out if they ever find the "immortal". I'm hoping they don

That kind of power is just too dangerous in anyone's hands!

Lija Fisher’s middle-grade debut The Cryptid Catcher is a fast-paced, exciting adventure. Kids will love learning about the different cryptids - some familiar like the Yeti and Loch Ness Monster, and others I’d never heard of, like the Otterman. I enjoyed the unique twist on a well-loved fantasy trope, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with Clivo and the gang in the sequel! Clivo is a main character you can’t help loving - he’s like a young Indiana Jones - and the supporting cast, kids who are not normally portrayed as heroes, are given the spotlight. I found myself constantly changing my mind about whether some characters were good or bad as the story progressed. The Cryptid Catcher is a fun, rollicking mystery-adventure that 3rd-6th graders will love.

Young teen fantasy: what thirteen-year-old wouldn't be thrilled to travel the world alone with airline staff falling over themselves to pamper you, having an adult guardian so easily tricked into leaving you home alone, and meeting fellow youngsters who are the foremost experts in their field? Fun stuff! And our hero has a meaningful philosophical insight at the climax of his adventures.

As a side note, I want to sincerely thank Lija Fisher for taking the trouble
