One of my favorite releases of 2018, The Raging Ones, had me at the end of my seat and screaming for more. It's sequel and conclusion, The Last Hope, is quite the fitting end to Court, Mykal and Franny's story. If you haven't read The Raging Ones, beware of possible spoilers to that book ahead.

This duology has always been a little bit science fiction and a little bit fantasy. I think that's one of the reasons I love it. The Last Hope absolutely expands upon the world-building presented in the first book, as well as the history of the Saltare planets and Earth. We get answers about the link and why Court, Mykal and Franny are the only ones with this bond. We also see and learn more about fan favorites such as Court's brother Kinden, Zimmer and the Soarcastle sisters. Finally, we are introduced to a new character, Stork, who is by-far my favorite of this book. He has a huge role to play in the story, despite his somewhat mysterious obligations and origins.

The Last Hope picks up very soon after The Raging Ones ended with that epic cliffhanger. Thank goodness for that! I can't get into too many details of what happens without spoiling the story, but the trio is in dire straights and near the end of the line. They meet the character Stork, who has been searching for the trio. He has the answers they seek, but to earn those answers he needs their help with what is essentially a search and rescue mission. A mission the whole human race is dependent upon.

As the trio traverses their newfound identities, they also further build their friendships and find romance. This story has always been largely character driven, while taking place in an imaginative and unique setting. The trio is regularly faced with tempering their emotions for the sake of others, while learning how to use their link to their advantage.

I wouldn't say this sequel had a different feel than The Raging Ones, but it certainly opened the story to a far grander world and history than I had originally anticipated. I really, really love how this ended too. Seriously, happiness galore.

Overall, this is definitely still a favorite of mine and I highly recommend this duology!

Science fiction has never been a genre I was fond of. I'm more of a fantasy and romance reader, but Krista and Becca Ritchie have made me a fan!

The Last Hope is a fantastic conclusion to The Raging Ones duology. I devoured every page of this story, unable to read the words fast enough. Krista and Becca Ritchie imbued the perfect amounts of adventure, suspense, and romance into The Last Hope.

As long as the Ritchie sisters keep writing science fiction, I will keep reading it!

While I enjoyed book 1, it didn’t really leave a deep impression so I went into this with no specific expectations. I’m pleased to say I enjoyed this book much more than the previous one.

Court, Franny, and Mykal faced new experiences and environments in their quest. I loved seeing how they learn to adapt to their new surroundings and exploring their own humanity. And the new main character was a good addition in keeping the characters interesting.

There were a lot of things happening throughout the book, with secrets, twists and turns that some I figured out and some took me by surprise. I enjoyed the romantic element but it felt stilted at times.

The Last Hope is a journey of self-discovery and survival. It’s the conclusion to The Raging Ones duet and would appeal to readers who enjoy romantic sci-fi.

It's hard to believe this story is over. There are still so many things left unexplored but, nevertheless, I am quite pleased with the ending.

It's bittersweet to say goodbye to characters I enjoy so much.

    . The first book,

, was released in August of 2018 and I was more than impressed.

It really kept me engaged the whole way through and the world-building was excellent! The end of had a HUGE reveal and cliffhanger ending. Our young protagonists discovered something that shook the world as they knew it to the foundation. When I finished that last page my jaw was legit on the floor!!!

How the heck was I going to wait a year before getting my hands on the second book?

Well, lucky for me, I didn't have to wait a full year. I was blessed to receive an early copy of the second book, The Last Hope, from the publisher, Wednesday Books. I very hearty thank you to them and guys, guess what!?

It starts off with our main three literally in a fight for their lives. Rescued by a cast of new characters they board a starship from Earth, where they begin to learn all things Earthling. It is at this time that they are made aware of the fact that the fate of planet Earth is on the line and they are amongst the only people who can do something about it.

Now on a quest against time, with the future of the universe on the line, Franny, Court and Mykal have to push past their limits and fight against all odds until the ultimate finale. As with the first book, this second is highly unique and wonderfully written. It again kept me engaged from start to finish and I seriously did not want it to be over. It hurts my heart.

There were some intense scifi twists at the end that at first had me scratching my head. Were they brilliant or were they there out of convenience? Overall, I don't really care. The story ended great. Was it perfect? No. The pacing was a little off for me in this one. The middle dragged a wee bit and the end seemed a tad rushed but in its entirety, this is a great story.

This duology will continue to hold a special place in my heart and I recommend it to YA SciFi and Fomance fans. If you weren't aware, there is quite a bit of romance in these books, mainly between Mykal and Court.

The romance elements were quite well done, in my opinion. Both Krista and Becca are experienced romance writers so that makes perfect sense. This being said, although there is romance, it definitely does not over shade the scifi elements.

At its core this is a scifi story that I feel is accessible to all levels of science-fiction readers. So, whether you are new to the genre, or an old hat like myself, I think everyone can enjoy this!

I hope the authors produce more in this genre as I really think they did an excellent job with this duology. They should be very proud of their efforts. Now that the completed pair is on the shelves, this is the perfect time to head to your local bookseller, or favorite online retailer and pick them both up for a binge session!

Wow. That was fykking awesome. Mayday.

Well, what exactly can I say to describe this book without spoiling it? Honestly, not very much. What I can say is that Krista and Becca Ritchie once again take us on an adventure with our linked trio of Franny, Mykal, and Court.

We start off where we left off in book one. Then, somehow a whole new and unexpected mission begins. I read a few reviews before I started, that mentioned that TLH felt like an entirely new story, and I was a bit afraid. After reading, I can somewhat see that, but to me it feels like the next step in a journey. We get some new settings, a few new characters, the reappearance of some old ones, and a new mission. Our trio gets the much awaited answers to some of their (Ok Franny’s) questions. What I especially liked is the arc that Franny’s story takes. Of course I love Mykal and Court, but Franny was sort of the outlier even in TRO. In The Last Hope everyone has time to shine and finds more of their place.

All in all it’s just an all around good read. It kept me turning pages wanting to find out what would happen next. There is some world building once again in this book, but the authors kept it a bit tighter so it didn’t feel like reading another series opener. I can honestly say I enjoyed this installment a bit more than the first one. And the ending.

. That’s all I can really say, but yeah.

I don’t generally read sci-fi but this was a lot of fun! There was just the perfect amount of world building to keep it interesting, but I was never confused or overwhelmed with it. The characters were all well-developed, engaging, and likable (well most of them). The story was swiftly and perfectly paste, never a dull moment. The Romance was sweet and satisfying. This book was out of my comfort zone, out of this world, and showed me the stars. I’m really looking forward to what this writing duo has in store for us next.

I began The Last Hope blind because I never read The Raging Ones. I was confused at first, but bits of information began to show the bigger picture of the story. The link between Franny, Court and Mykal seems like a terrible thing to endure. I would hate it because there is no privacy, and it's kind of like being controlled. I grew to love these characters with all of their quirks and complexities. Each one is written so perfectly to occupy their own unique space, yet they share their humanity. Franny, Court and Mykal are learning what it means to be human, fragile and insecure with no known expiration date, and it's both scary and exciting. They want answers about their lives, and Stork has these answers, which he uses as leverage so they will aid him on an important mission. Stork is a new acquaintance who has a major impact on the lives of the three. Of course, they can't tell him about the link between them. How much does Stork already know? For all of his devil may care persona, Stork is actually very smart and observant. What information does he possess about Franny, Court and Mykal? Does Stork know how or why they ended up on the wrong planet? They agree to help with the mission in exchange for information. I won't delve into that, though. The story is sharp, fast paced and totally consuming. It's serious, funny, happy and sad. The characters are loveable, flawed and entertaining, and you will become so invested in the outcome because it's like you know them personally. Just read it, and you'll understand what I mean. I could not put this one down. From the first page, I was lost to everything else except reading this book. I definitely recommend!

After enduring the cliffhanger from book 1 I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I had to know what was happening with my favorite trio. Color me ecstatic when I found out that there was someone else just waiting in the wings - to complete the trio in a way.

The bond between Franny, Court, and Mykal was as strong as ever, and the history of such a bond turned out to be as unique as the trio itself.

I still felt that the balance between the three was off at times, especially since Franny felt more like a third wheel than an equal partner. I wanted her to have someone to connect with on a deeper level as well. Someone that would balance it all out. I did get my wish in a sense - but it wasn't entirely satisfying.

The entire book wasn't as satisfying as The Ratings Ones. Even though I love the authors' writing style, I still feel like this duet was a pale comparison to their other books. On the other hand for someone that has never read anything by this author duo, and is a lover of all things YA and fantasy this duet would be a fantastic place to start with. It delivers everything a lover of all things sci-fi and YA might wish for. And it confirmed that I love sci-fi way more than YA fantasy.

Last year I read The Raging Ones and while I didn't absolutely love it, I was kind of slightly obsessed with it while reading. I was hooked with the characters and their strange and wonderful connection to each other. I was 100% there for this trio in book one. And I was just as into them when from the moment picked up book two.

This book picks up after book one leaves off. With some dangerous revelations and a world to fight for, our trio must join forces with a mysterious new character to find a magic baby and essentially save the world.

And yes, I am aware that this sounds a bit ridiculous at the end there, but bear with me, I'll address that in a moment.

The characters are what really make this story. It's not so much the adventure as it is the characters that are having the adventures. I loved Court and Mykal and Franny already, and I instantly loved the new character, Stork. They were so distinct from one another. So in sync and yet so unique. They were so full of life and personality and I could just read about them forever, just going about and living their crazy lives.

The concept of the story is also really interesting. I love the idea of having a set amount of time to live and seeing all the consequences of that be present in the story. I love the idea that the Saltarians are winning the war because they can't be killed before their deathday, and obviously they are going to send soldiers with far off deathdays. It's all so creative and interesting and cool.

And yet, this book wasn't perfect.

I had some issues with book one. Issues that I let slide because I was heavily invested in the characters. Some of the issues revolved around the fact that most of what actually happens in the book and most of the things that the plot hinges on are actually kind of ridiculous. This is where we bring back that magic prophesized baby. That threw me off for a minute. There were also a couple of things that seemed a little too far fetched. A little too convenient.

And yet, I read it in one day in spite of it all.

In the end, I think this is definitely a fun series that y'all should definitely give a chance to. It's interesting and fun and entertaining and utterly addicting. I also think it makes a perfect duology. I am so glad the authors didn't feel the need to drag it along and instead gave us a clean and satisfying conclusion.

Overall, I totally recommend this series if you want a quick, fun read with really compelling characters.
