now that this is FINALLY announced I can write a little thing about it:

i love this book more than life itself, lets be real. I've never read a book like it.

Searing with heart and filled to the brim with humor, Camryn Garrett's debut is a needed addition to the YA canon and is absolutely unputdownable, unforgettable, and so incredibly special.

full disclosure: i came up with the title for this book. you seriously won't want to miss it.

So good, so full of voice, so feels like it was written by an actual (brilliant) teen in all the best ways.

The author had an interview on her website explaining how she got the idea for this book. During the interview she mentioned that HIV was no different than asthma or diabete and that she wanted her character to explore her sexuality to full potential. I suppose that the author is not yet out of her teens. Nonetheless, this is seriously concerning.

Does the author honestly not realize the danger of HIV or the fact that an HIV positive person can actually infect someone that isn't? Or that yes, while HIV positive teens deserves to be treated with respect like anybody else, dating someone with this illness has serious life implications, sometimes disastrously so? It change everything from having children, to getting sick, having surgery...etc.

Frankly, I see people and their pitchforks for books like the Blood Heir or calling out editors for not doing a good job screening problematic content, but in my opinion a book like this is much more concerning. Reading the blurb and the author's interview, it kind of feel like cheap drama grafted from a serious topic and a teen misleading other teens, though not on purpose. Not saying that it shouldn't be published or anything like that, but HIV is a very serious topic.

And when I read things like that, "Eventually, I started wondering what it would be like to be a horny teenager with HIV. I wanted to create a really confident, young woman who knew exactly what she wanted, especially regarding sex. That’s where Simone came in," I just feel a bit unsettled. Like, is this honestly all that there is to be HIV positive? I don't know it just seem childish...and cheap to me.

Saying this, this is a work of fiction, so the author is free to write anything she wants! BTW, I don't want to discourage anyone from reading the book. Who know? Maybe, I'm wrong and it'll turn out to be really good! But these are just my *thoughts* (for now).

Even if I never read the book*, I really want to meet the author! She seems like such a genuinely happy and fun person to be around!

    *But I most certainly will
