The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire, Part Two Reviews

Somehow I managed to get my hands on this one early which was thrilling because I love Kuvira very much. Spoiler free; I wasn't disappointed. It was really wonderful to see more of little Kuvira. She was such an adorable and squishy child lol. And of course current Kuvira is a badass. I really hope to see her make amends with Baatar and the other Be Fongs.

ahhhh I can't believe Guan brainwashed Asami, Mako and a Bolin...and now King Wu! I hope Kuvira and Baatar Jr are able to leave their differences behind cause I honestly miss them being together I already forgive Kuvira. She wasn't in the right mind-set when Korra was gone. I know she wanted to take care of her people but considering how awful she was treated by her biological parents (?) during her early childhood, I'm starting to really understand why she acted the way she did. I hope Kuvira and Baatar Jr are able to leave their differences behind cause I honestly miss them being together 😭 I already forgive Kuvira. She wasn't in the right mind-set when Korra was gone. I know she wanted to take care of her people but considering how awful she was treated by her biological parents (?) during her early childhood, I'm starting to really understand why she acted the way she did. She want to be a better leader for her people to look up to, but in reality, she was repeating the same mistakes her parents did to her. Commanding discipline and order to those who needed guidance. Not only did she become one of the worst dictators in the Earth Kingdom, but she lost all the people she loved along the way. After finishing Part 2, Kuvira is so ready to redeem herself. Asami may have said people can't change overnight, but I'm starting to doubt that...now that her and Kuvira swapped sides (psychologically). So yeah, Kuvira doesn't seem too evil here but we'll just see how it plays out in the final part. I just hope they find a way to reverse engineer this brainwashing fast, cause I personally don't like how they're tearing Korra and Asami apart from each other...again! But this time Asami "hates" her!!! 😩

Ya'll, I still really love Kuvira. Best LoK villain, and best damn character in this trilogy of LoK sequel graphic novels. I love me a great anti-heroine/redemption storyline and no one in LoK deserves it more than Kuvira.

As far as the plot goes, it felt really... sparse? I'm used to a volume of A:TLA and LoK being packed with more than this. Not saying that there wasn't a lot going on, there was plenty going on, but, I don't know, there was something off about the pacing here. Honestly, my

Also: WU! I'm still so proud of how far that kid has come.

A good follow up that will leave you waiting for - well, agonising over - the next volume. It contains worthy character moments, big or brief, especially concerning Kuvira (I adore her grounded (pun unintended) redemption arc and hope there won't be any cop outs), Wu, Toph, Suyin and Opal. You will notice the strong female presence - female leader presence.

Also there's humour and suspense, running side by side.

The thing is, all of these volumes are too short! As are the action scenes. But at

The thing is, all of these volumes are too short! As are the action scenes. But at least most of the character interactions and development are wonderfully served. Great art accompanies everything.

Other highlights include Naga, and a Korrasami kiss on the very first page!

I just hope that, given the fast pace and compactness of 'The Legend of Korra' comic volumes, plot points, themes and the characters as they are will not turn out oversimplified.

    Final Score: 4/5

Can you believe that prior to 2019 I hadn’t read any Legend of Korra or watched the show? I still haven’t watched the show but I have read 5 comics. I read Turf Wars for Asian readathon and I really liked the characters and storyline. It was easy to get into the story even if I haven’t watched the tv-show.

This is the second installment in ”ruins of the empire” and i really like this one. I don’t feel like the risks are super high (unlike turf wars) but I do still feel the excitement and i am

Overall, I will give a better review when part 3 is out but so far I like it but not as much as turf wars! But I will still give it 4 stars because it feels silly to give this comic book anything less just because it doesn’t feel like the stakes are as high like in turf wars.

3.5/5* I’m living for Kuvira’s Redemption Arc here, but to be honest the whole brainwashing thing is just kinda lame in my opinion. Still excited for part three!

I always have a lot of fun reading these comics!

Kuvira is such an interesting character and I totally love what they are doing with her. She deserves better.
