Half-Blood

Welcome to Darkblood—oops, I mean Darkhen Academy. There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school:1. Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy.2. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon… or else.3. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors.Too bad I’ve never reall...

I can't wait for you guys to delve into the world of Darkblood Academy! You're going to love Luna and the infamous Seven... not to mention a certain swoon worthy instructor ;)

A school with almost every supernatural you can think of! I loved Darkblood Academy. It’s definitely one of my new favorites. I hated to put it down. It was fast-paced with tons of adventure, magic, mystery, and romance. Luna is a fun character who doesn’t break under all the supernatural pressure she’s been tossed into. The romance between her and this shmexy, off-limits guy is just heating up. I’m so glad to see him in this book ; ) I can’t wait for the next!

Wow, just wow. This was amazing. I could not put the book down. It was so good to meet some of the known characters from “Hitched” and find out what they are doing after the show. I really like the mix with magic, demons, mean girls and love interest(s). The forbidden fruit makes it oh so sweet, but my heart lies with the fae prince with the lilac eyes. I can’t wait to see how mini minx, Luna, is getting full control of her powers and finds a way to get her love.

I love Luna and her character! She’s amazing, finally not just some girl that will go mad or crazy or anything about boy or things that are happening to her. Also a huge plus is that Luna is 18 years old.

I just LOVE this book, not words can even describe it! ❤️❤️❤️

I received a free copy for an honest review. I love how this series starts off. From the prologue, you get hooked into the story. Along with some new characters, there are some old friends from Hitched that you get to delve back into. The main character, Luna, is amazing. I fell in love with her curiosity and bravery. She gets thrust into a world she's only ever heard rumors about and she does a great job of trying to stay on her feet. But what great story comes without some roadblocks? She's fa

Maybe nothing new in the YA genre, but I still enjoyed reading it. Magical school with lots of different supernaturals, both students and teatchers - what's not to like?! I actually liked ALL of the characters, even though I thought Luna sometimes acted a bit childish for her age (she's 18). Another thing that bothered me a little was all the descriptions of how gorgeous everybody was. I get that most supernaturals are good looking, but it gets tiresome to read it repeatedly.

There are some rather hot kissing scenes in the book. It works for me, but might not be for everyone. This is also some kind of spin off-series from Hitched by the same author, but I haven't read that and I didn't feel that I needed to in order to understand this book.

I would definitely like to continue reading this series - and maybe even Hitched! - and I appriciate getting an ARC from the author.

Darkblood Academy: Half-Blood is a young adult paranormal series that follows Luna, an eighteen year old girl whose life gets completely turned upside down in more ways than one when she discovers that she is a half-blood member of the supernatural community that recently came out of hiding thanks to reality television. I didn't read Hitched by the same author, but I liked the concept of modernizing the idea of hidden supernatural worlds being exposed through a means illustrated using the realities of today's society. This story does have supernaturals of all flavors, so I think readers of the paranormal will find at least one character they like, whether it's the dragon shifters, witches, demons, fae, werewolves, sirens, or vampires. Aspects of the book reminded me of The Vampire Academy. I felt like the horny teenage aspect of this book was a bit overdone (also extends to the adults). Yes, I get that the supes are all hot and some of them went through a reality dating show together, but it just got a bit too distracting from what I considered to be the focus of the book - Luna uncovering she's a half-blood with the potential to unlock a powerful magical legacy. Very enjoyable pace for readers. I recommend to those that appreciate good, young adult, supernatural academy books.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

Half-Blood was a rather tame book. I know it was YA but it felt a tad bit juvenile for the characters' intended age. It gave me so much of PG-13 vibes with the MC's blushing naiveness, censored curses and an overall non-graphic style with every element.

Luna was supposedly 18 but honestly she acted like she was maybe 16. Her mannerism, dialogues, reactions to Ryder or other guys.. everything was just not convincing enough to make me feel like she was actually 18. Hell she didn't even curse, I mea

Luna was supposedly 18 but honestly she acted like she was maybe 16. Her mannerism, dialogues, reactions to Ryder or other guys.. everything was just not convincing enough to make me feel like she was actually 18. Hell she didn't even curse, I mean seriously? She wasn't the age appropriate heroine so everything she did felt.. off. Ryder was another weird character, I get a teenager having a thing for him but what in the world inclines a 21 years old dude to fancy a teenager? That question doesn't get answered. Whatever "chemistry" they had is solely based on physical attraction and superficial flirting, I really couldn't see the foundation on which these "feelings" were developing. I'm not sure if this going to be a love triangle situation or what with Luna side eyeing Drake as well.

The Seven were quite underwhelming for being a bunch of powerful supernaturals. I felt like the academy setting didn't really explore the gritty side of paranormal. We got to see physical combat, one magical defence class and unipeg flying experience that honestly doesn't really portray any kind of meaningful attachment forming between Zeus and Luna. It just felt too mundane for what could have been seen with

of these different paranormal beings involved.

The story itself is quite basic but I liked that it really wasn't trying to make Luna a special snowflake with the way things progress in terms of her powers even though she is the centre for everything happening. It's just the whole thing stayed too vague with the demons, the mark and the dark lord to make me care about the demon attacks. The attacks itself were very weak at portraying these demons as dangerous, the scenes lacked the punch it needed.

Luna is a foster child in her last year of high school. She’s pretty and has a friend but isn’t very good at school (or anything, probably). One day, a reality TV star shows up and tells her that they are a) half-sisters and b) Luna is supernatural and has to go to a special supernatural school. Sure, why not. I mean at this point, I’m still reeling for the implied injustice of the prologue, where Luna is born and her mother don’t want her because she’s supernatural, and her supernatural father

One day, a reality TV star shows up and tells her that they are a) half-sisters and b) Luna is supernatural and has to go to a special supernatural school. Sure, why not. I mean at this point, I’m still reeling for the implied injustice of the prologue, where Luna is born and her mother don’t want her because she’s supernatural, and her supernatural father isn’t going to take on responsibility for her, and is being all grimly critical of the mother. A woman he presumably had consensual unprotected sex with. Luna’s father is a no good deadbeat dad, and I’m on her (not appearing again in this book) mother’s side: he’s garbage.

And now I’m distracted: so yes, Luna’s mum rejects her child because she’s a bigot and I’m not coming to her defence, but I’m so impatient with these plots! The dad is a very powerful warlock with lots of children he’s never taken care of, and is now pretending to be the VP of the US so he can get supernatural stuff settled into the muggle world. I’m pretty sure the series is going to give him a role and a voice at some point, and I’m so irritated because I’m also pretty sure the mother’s voice and role have been finalised in the prologue. Argh, so unfair.

Anyway, there was an earlier series where Luna’s extremely pretty half-sister was the Bachelorette, and it turned out that her 25 suitors were supernatural, and that’s how supernaturals were introduced to muggles. Through a dating show. I was sort of intrigued by the premise, but then Luna had to spend most of the book panting over one of the ex-suitors who was also her teacher, and I did not like it.

At the school, blah blah, there’s a hot snooty boy and some other boys and some mean girls and they’re in a secret magic club. Luna makes friends with dragon girls, and they are useless. Dragon girls should not be useless, it made me mad. Luna is maybe also going to end up with the hot snooty boy as well as the teacher, I don’t care.

Luna has special magic (whatever). There’s a thing called a unipeg. Just don’t do that, it’s an awful idea.

And everybody swears ALL THE TIME, but use same first letter word substitution. And every time I see it, I think: stop wasting my time. If you don’t want to use vulgar language: then don’t. Stop pointing it out to me, I don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve.

Luna kept going on about the Bachelorette show, which made me think she would have preferred to be in that series, which made me think it’s probably a lot better than this series, but also probably terrible.
